Attendance Officer Induction Training

September 13 @ 9:30 am 4:00 pm

Outline

This whole day training event aims to ensure that all those working on the attendance front line in schools are able to benefit from access to an excellent induction from highly skilled and experienced attendance leaders from Azure Education Consultancy.

Description

This whole day training event will cover the following:

1) An introduction to attendance and it’s importance
We will consider the impact that poor attendance can have on children, as why it is so important that children attend regularly.

2) National and local guidance and how to apply it
We will review the guidance provided by the Department for Education and understand the expectations the guidance places on schools. We will consider these expectations and how schools can ensure compliance with them.

3) Strategies to improve school attendance
We will discuss and consider the possible barriers to regular school attendance, and the range of strategies that may help improve attendance for specific children. We will also consider whole school attendance improvement strategies, and how specific, targeted activities can help. We will also discuss the role of support agencies, and how they can help too.

4) Considering and making requests for legal interventions.
We will brief attendees on the range of legal interventions available, and how the Staged Approach to Poor Attendance helps evidence government expectations in relation to “Support First”, early help and challenge. We will also explain the process local authorities should follow when prosecuting parents, and why it is so important that we get things right at every stage of the process.

You will also get the opportunity to network with other attendance workers, as well as getting to meet and build relationships with members of Azure Education Consultancy.

Outcomes

By the end of the day, attendees will:

  1. Understand the importance of attendance and the detrimental effect poor attendance can have on children.
  2. Understand the expectations placed on schools by central and local government, and how you can ensure compliance.
  3. Have an awareness of strategies that can help improve whole school and individual child attendance.
  4. Know which other services can contribute to improving attendance
