This whole day training event aims to ensure that strategic attendance leads in schools are able to benefit from access to an excellent induction from highly skilled and experienced attendance leaders from Azure Education Consultancy.
This whole day training event will cover the following:
1) An introduction to attendance and its importance
We will consider the impact that poor attendance can have on children, as why it is so important that children attend regularly.
2) National and local guidance and how to apply it
We will review the guidance provided by the Department for Education and understand the expectations the guidance places on schools. We will consider these expectations, how schools can ensure compliance with them, and how this may link into a school’s attendance policies and procedures.
3) Strategies to improve attendance
We will discuss and consider the possible barriers to regular attendance, and the range of strategies that may help improve attendance for specific children. We will also consider whole school attendance improvement strategies, and how specific, targeted activities can help. We will also discuss the role of support agencies, and how they can help too.
4) Evaluating Data and Demonstrating Impact
Attendance is data rich, with schools able to analyse data patterns and trends across a whole variety of characteristics and vulnerable groups. We will ensure that you are able to focus on analysing data specific to issues that impact your school, whilst considering what Ofsted may expect. We’ll also help consider how to evaluate the impact of the variety of ongoing interventions and issues, and how you can hopefully demonstrate the positive impact on attendance.
The DfE remains committed to driving through improvements in attendance, which means that there will be a significant shift in policy and thus expectations for schools and LAs. This training will ensure that you remain up to date with the latest information, advice and guidance from the DfE.
You will also get the opportunity to network with other attendance lead, as well as getting to meet and build relationships with members of Azure Education Consultancy.
By the end of the day, attendees will:
1) Understand the importance of attendance and the detrimental effect poor attendance can have on children.
2) Understand the expectations placed on schools by central and local government, and how you can ensure compliance.
3) Have an awareness of strategies that can help improve whole school and individual child attendance.
4) Know how to effectively analyse and evaluate attendance data, and report on patterns, trends and impact.
